My name is Omar Feliz. I’m the CEO of a PhoenixCorpAdvertising. And today I want to talk to you guys about how to choose the right digital marketing agency for your business.
Once you’ve already decided to sit down and meet with an agency. And the reason I’m sharing this article with you guys today is because I see so many business owners decide to start working with an agency and get no results.
This happens far too often. And smart business owners like yourself already know how important the digital space is for the growth of your business.
But get discouraged when they get burned. I want to share with you guys how to not get burned.
There are four overarching principles that you need to be aware of during these meetings. It is credibility, questions, communication, and bridging the gap.
Let’s start with credibility before you even have the initial meeting with that agency.
You need to do your due diligence. Your time is valuable. You need to be able to eliminate an agency from consideration before you even meet.
Let’s talk about a couple of things that determine whether an agency has good or bad credibility.
First, you need to take a look at their Website. If their Web site looks unprofessional or not well put together that’s a huge red flag. Even if they don’t offer Web site services themselves. This means that at the very least they’re unwilling to invest in their own business.
Now on the flip side if an agency has a great Website that usually means or a more professional agency to work with.
Secondly, you need to look at the quality of their testimonials.
If an agency has video testimonials of their clients that is a huge plus. Most agencies, however, have written testimonials where they can put whatever they want on them.
You also need to be sure that they are clear and concise about what they offer and what they stand for as a company.
If they can’t be transparent online the chances of them being transparent with you are likely none.
There are a couple of things you need to know about communication between you and an agency. If you are leading towards working with them first. Agencies have the capability of showing you data and metrics that actually mean something for your business.
In my experience, most agencies send over a report of data and metrics at the end of each month that looks great but doesn’t really mean anything regarding the growth of your business.
Don’t settle for anything less than you want to see. To make you feel comfortable for what you’re paying for.
Secondly, a good digital marketing agency will be in consistent contact with you especially during the first couple of months to make sure that they are representing your brand.
The way that you want it to be perceived a good marketing team will use you. The business owner to figure out how to best speak to the audience that you’re trying to get in front of a bad marketing team will post or advertise bland generic messages at best. And at worst will misrepresent your business.
Now let’s go over questions. When you’re meeting with an agency there are things that you need to look for and things that you need to watch out for.
Let’s begin with what you need to watch out for.
I hear this all the time from business owners. When you sit down to meet with an agency the salesman talks the entire time about how amazing their services are and how they’re magically going to take you to the next level.
If they do this that means that the salesmen came into the meeting with a set service or group of services that they want to cram down your throat to get a commission.
It also indicates that their services are cookie-cutter meaning they are copy and paste and are not contextual to your business or to your audience.
They don’t ask you any questions. This is what I like to call prescribing without diagnosing.
Think of it this way, if you went to a doctor because of iron deficiency and they didn’t ask you any questions and then they prescribed you with painkillers you’d be pretty upset.
Let’s talk about what to look for a strong indication of a great digital marketing agency is when they take the time to fully understand your business as much as possible and ask questions with a purpose.
They diagnose then prescribe they offer you services that are contextual to your conversation and to your business. It’s as simple as that.
If an agency takes the time to genuinely understand your business and its needs then offer services that fulfill those needs. That’s a huge indicator of an agency that has your best interests at heart.
Bridging the Gap
Last but not least we have what I like to call bridging the gap. This is what will ultimately determine whether you wish to work with a digital marketing agency or not.
What I’m talking about is when you feel like an agency has thoroughly determined where you are right now, where you want your business to be and have positioned themselves to take you there.
This is the emotional side of the deal. Not only do you need it to make logical sense which is the first three topics that we covered but you also need to genuinely feel like this is the right decision for you and your business.
If you feel confident in all of these areas you should work with that agency. All investments are risks but it’s better to go for it fail and learn rather than do nothing and stay exactly where you are.
I appreciate you guys taking the time to read this article. I hope it helps ease the process of choosing a digital marketing agency for your business.
